Challenge/Project – Restoration Project focusing on the long term care of the Waikato River.

Kevin Hutchison of Waikato River Care got in contact with Robert with requirements to provide a professional & efficient Planting service – contract planting for river enhancement, riverbank, restoration to the lower Waikato river. Kevin needed this project to be completed within a short time frame; he knew he could rely on us to get this project done on time and on budget.

Robert used his expertise in Project Management pulling together – his team of Huntly based work force, plant suppliers, and logistics. Health and Safety is paramount working next to the river, Robert’s Health and Safety Policy and his experience ensured that the job was completed effeiintcy in a safe manner. This project involved public relations (Maori TV & the local press), which enabled the sharing of knowledge, and gave people an insight into the long-term benefits projects such as this one provide for New Zealand’s environment. In 3 1/2 days Robert and his team had planted 11,000 1L grade plants to this Riparian Strip spanning 1 km. The success of this job and the long term benefits to the river called upon all parties – Waikato Regional Council, Waikato Rivercare, Waahi Whaanui Trust, Mighty River Power, Local Iwi and NativeAwa to work together. This job reflects the importance of teamwork, which Robert and his team pride themselves on. This project supports our work as kaitiakitanga (caretakers of the land) it embraces our respect for NZ heritage, past, present and future. Working together, restoring the river!
